This image appeared in my twitter feed a couple of times yesterday. I skipped over it not knowing the context since it was obviously a fake:

Turns out it’s real. CNN actually put this on TV. This is very scary for a number of reasons, the most of which is that we’re now beyond Poe’s Law.

Poe’s law is an adage of Internet culture that states that, without a clear indicator of the author’s intent, it is impossible to create a parody of extreme views so obviously exaggerated that it cannot be mistaken by some readers or viewers as a sincere expression of the parodied views.

The original statement of the adage, by Nathan Poe, was:

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won’t mistake for the genuine article.

It was bad enough not knowing what was real vs. what was basic satire for the past 20+ years in America, but now that what should be exceptionally obvious and stupid satire may actually be real means we’ve passed into a new phase of American stupidity. We live in disturbing times.

The movie Red Dawn is a guilty pleasure of mine and I watch it every few years. I’m talking about the original 1984 film, not the shitty 2012 remake. The premise of Red Dawn, where Cuban troops, backed by the Soviet Union, suddenly invade the heart of America via Mexico, is preposterous, although people who lived in that time period and analyzed military strategy would love to tell you the sequence of events portrayed at the very beginning of the film and the attack vectors used by the invading troops were entirely plausible.

I find the ridiculousness of it mainly to be that the invasion happens without warning with the town’s residents seemingly oblivious to the fact that Mexico and the rest of central America became communist states and NATO had basically been dissolved in their timeline. Then there’s the fact that high school students help lead the resistance to the communist invasion magically learning war strategy and technology along the way and finding the time to write WOLVERINES all over everything before heading back to the mountains to camp. As one review at the time put it, “for too much of its running time, it’s just a childishly simplistic masturbatory fantasy for right-wing hebephrenics…”

But it’s still an entertaining movie and it’s one the left loves to hate. The recent hyperbolic hyperpartisan hyperventilation tm about Trump and his staff’s links to Russia makes me long for the days of the 1980s where the ridiculousness of Red Dawn pales in comparison to the current narrative of the mainstream media and the left. To review, the left believes that Russia has effectively performed a coup d’état of the United States without the use of military force by turning Trump and his staff. This isn’t a straw man argument given the articles and headlines I’ve read. The recent resignation of Flynn and Sessions being in the news is all the left needs as proof that this has happened. This is remarkable news for a couple of reasons, because under this theory:

A) the United States no longer exists, and
B) it represents the greatest intelligence failure or silent corruption, of any country’s intelligence community, ever

The theory first presented itself the day after Trump won the presidential election, which would mean at least some in the (former) United States intelligence community had to have known about it prior to election day and simply allowed or were forced to allow it to happen. Surely, someone would have spoken out the day before the election? No? Nevermind the ridiculousness of it all and that the left is now behaving worse than 1950s McCarthyism, I’m curious what the left’s movie treatment of the great Russian takeover of the United States will be like. I imagine it could be a thriller, like one of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan novel-turned-movie treatments, like the Hunt for Red October where Alec Baldwin sniffs out the Russians.

But, I fear the movie would be more like Brokeback Mountain where Putin and Trump grow to have a love affair after they both meet on tumblr and discover they are gender fluid or something. I’m not sure who would portray Putin, but Trump would be played again, by Alec Baldwin, of course. In the movie, Rebels wearing pink vagina hats and pant suits repeatedly scream and shout “NOT MY PRESIDENT!” while furiously posting to social media that they are literally shaking, then Putin and Trump realize the errors of their ways in a heart to heart and give the United States to Hillary Clinton, the rightful and just dictator, as they ride off into the sunset back to Russia with everyone who didn’t vote for Clinton. I’m sure that’s a masturbatory fantasy of the current left-wing hebephrenics.

The movie is then nominated for an Oscar, but the wrong winner is announced.

P.S. I admit it, I had to look up what the hell a hebephrenic was.

I hate social media, but it has its uses. With Facebook, it was a way to see what friends and acquaintances are up to if I hadn’t seen them in real life. I deactivated my Facebook account later in April, 2015 after I attempted to post a link to a news article from WJLA (the Washington, DC ABC affiliate) about the Freddie Gray case that stated the medical examiner was ruling the death an accident in the autopsy report, although the report hadn’t been released yet and was being finalized.

I was blocked from posting the link, blocked from making any updates at all for a time, then I was forcibly logged out of Facebook by Facebook. When I logged back in, I was able to post stuff again, but the article had disappeared from WJLA. Scary stuff, but not surprising if one understands how deep the government-Facebook connection goes.

Later when the official autopsy report came out, after Mosby withheld it from the public for two months, it was nothing like the narrative that had been given to the public, which was hardly surprising.

Then at one point during one of the trials, testimony revealed that at one point the medical examiner was going to rule the death an accident. Again, hardly surprising given what I just described above.

I logged on under my wife’s account every few weeks to post photos and make updates on the weather for those interested and continued to do so up until now. But Facebook has become significantly stupider than it already was. I was going to post the following under my wife’s account, but ultimately decided it needed to stay independent of her. This was my fourth or fifth draft. My first draft was scathing.

From Colin. I need to have a talk with those on social media who lean left, which is most of the people in [my wife’s] feed. Any time I have logged on here to post a picture or something over the past six months or so, I want to stab my eyeballs out from all of the political nonsense that’s on here, especially from the left. I hate to be the one that has to say this, it’s so incredibly obvious, but posting crap to social media isn’t going to accomplish what you want. Did your crapposts about Trump in 2016 prevent Trump from being elected? No. In fact, all the bogus outrage of this and that in years past helped him get elected and that’s something you STILL don’t understand. The left is entirely out of touch with large portions of America that have legitimate problems and it shows every time I log on here. If I were you, I would be angry at the DNC for their insistence on nominating a terrible candidate for President (actually, they rigged it) and Obama for selling out down-ballot Democratic candidates and then start rebuilding from there instead of letting racist and sexist identity politics rule everything you say and do. But what do I know? I’m a straight white male, therefore I’m an idiot in your eyes and don’t know what I’m talking about.

For the record, I haven’t been affiliated with a political party since I registered to vote over 20 years ago and part of the reasoning then was that I believed a two party system ultimately produces crap candidates. That sure as hell didn’t change with this election. Also, for the record, knowing the damage Clinton could have or may have done to the United States, I honestly believe she should be in federal prison for 20+ years. The fact that she was that close to becoming POTUS was far more shocking than anything Trump has done thus far (which is nothing Obama didn’t do) and spoke volumes to how completely off the rails America has become.

It’s obvious what’s going on here with the hyperpartisan hyperventilating – the absolute worst thing that could happen to the left and the political establishment at this point is that Trump succeeds as a President and that is what is feared the most. Well, he’s our President, he has my support, and I hope he succeeds. If that makes me your arch-enemy, or [my wife] being married to a fascist Nazi (the new term for critical thinker, apparently) in your eyes, or whatever idiocy you may think, then so be it. I didn’t like Obama all that much either after his first year but I ultimately hoped he succeeded too (his legacy is Donald Trump with a Republican Congress, so I’m going with him not having been successful).

A big part of the problem here is that most people subscribe to the two party system like it’s a pro football rivalry. Well, your team lost by not playing the electoral college game smartly at all, and the electoral college is something anyone who passes ninth grade understands is the law. This is further proof she shouldn’t have even been the nominee. It’s time to “move on” from being “nasty” because you’re embarrassing yourselves. This isn’t saying that idiots on the right are getting a pass from me, they’re not, but as of now, my four year old is way more mature than what is on display from the left.

tl;dr – the left is embarrassing itself right now and has completely lost independent thinkers like me

I never in a million years thought that I would be among the most mature people out there, but here we are. I won’t be going on Facebook anymore, even to check in on people who I honestly really like. There’s just too much garbage to sift through. I’m apparently not the only one who feels this way – I leave you with this article that popped up in a list of links somewhere:
